IB’s postcard uses different textures to visualize the different codes within the Oreo making video. The card reads from left to right and top to bottom. IB was interested in textures when she learned that texture representations for nominal categories can make it difficult for the audience to identify them as nominal categories, since some may see a progression in the texture and instead identify them as order-based categories. To solve this issue, IB strongly differentiated the texture representations, in order to communicate the distinctions between the categories. For example, some textures are rigidly geometric, some are dense, and some are organic. See the back of the postcard for the key!
