To visualize the data from the Oreo making video, Mulan used symbols and position. She was inspired by a tiered data postcard from the postcard archive. The card reads from top to bottom, left to right. Mulan created symbols for each coded activity, and each instance of a symbol on the card represents ten seconds of the video. Her symbols started as circles, and then she realized she could add a dash to create a magnifying glass for gathering info, or a plus sign to represent generating ideas.
