Welcome to the Design Signatures' Teaching Resources! Here you’ll find teaching activities related to design education, design research, and reflection. The activities provided here can be a powerful resource for all subjects, not just design and engineering.

This resource is still growing—come back in the future to see more!

About

On these pages we've provided teaching activities which you can use in your classroom, workshop information and materials from our conference workshops, and selected presentations and publications on design and engineering education.

Many of the activities were created by the University of Washington Center for Engineering Learning & Teaching, and have been used in universities around the world to teach students new ways to plan, act, and reflect in their work. The Design Signatures in the Wild team has also been instrumental in the creation of these activities.

The Capturing Design Signatures collection offers an engaging resource for students to learn to trace and understand their own design processes. The Good Designers Do “X” collection asks, "What do good designers do?" and provides over 180 responses from expert designers and researchers around the world. The Design Activities collection hosts hands-on classroom activities where students can build towers and watch videos to learn about their design process. Finally, individual activities help students learn what design is and how to find inspiration in their work.
